PLANT CELL

                                  PLANTCELL

 Learning Outcomes: Plant Cell

1. Identify the main parts of a plant cell using a diagram (e.g., cell wall, cell membrane, nucleus, chloroplast, vacuole, cytoplasm).

2. Differentiate between plant cells and animal cells based on their structure and organelles.

3. Describe the function of each major plant cell organelle (e.g., chloroplasts for photosynthesis, vacuole for storage).

4. Label a plant cell diagram accurately.

5. Explain the role of the cell wall and chloroplasts in plant-specific functions.

6. Compare the shape and structure of plant cells with animal cells under a microscope (if practical is included).

7. Understand how plant cell structures support the life functions of a plant.

TESTNOTE

Plant Cell

Definition:

A plant cell is the basic structural and functional unit of plants. It is eukaryotic, meaning it has a well-defined nucleus and membrane-bound organelles.

Key Features of Plant Cells:

1. Cell Wall:

Made of cellulose.

Provides structure, protection, and support.

Located outside the cell membrane.

2. Cell Membrane:

Semi-permeable membrane.

Controls movement of substances in and out.

3. Nucleus:

Contains genetic material (DNA).

Controls cell activities.

4. Cytoplasm:

Jelly-like substance where organelles are suspended.

Site for many metabolic reactions.

5. Chloroplasts:

Contains chlorophyll (green pigment).

Site of photosynthesis.

Unique to plant cells.

6. Vacuole:

Large central vacuole.

Filled with cell sap (water, sugars, salts).

Helps in storage and maintaining turgor pressure.

7. Mitochondria:

Powerhouse of the cell.

Site of cellular respiration.

8. Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER):

Rough ER (with ribosomes): Protein synthesis.

Smooth ER: Lipid synthesis.

9. Golgi Apparatus:

Packages and transports proteins and lipids.

10. Ribosomes:

Site of protein synthesis.

11. Plasmodesmata:

Channels between adjacent plant cells.

Allows transport and communication.

Functions of a Plant Cell:

Perform photosynthesis.

Store nutrients and waste.

Maintain turgidity (firmness).

QUESTIONS

🧠 Objective Questions (MCQs/One-word)

1. Which organelle is known as the "powerhouse" of the cell?

3. Name the outermost layer of a plant cell.

4. What is the jelly-like substance inside the cell where organelles are suspended?

5. Which organelle stores food, water, and waste in plant cells?

6. True or False: Animal cells have chloroplasts.

✏️ Short Answer Questions

1. What are the main differences between plant and animal cells?

2. Define cell wall and explain its function.

3. What is the function of the large central vacuole in plant cells?

4. Name any four organelles found in a plant cell and state their functions.

5. Describe the structure of the nucleus.

6. Why are chloroplasts important for plants?

📖 Long Answer Questions

1. Explain the structure and function of plant cell organelles with a labeled diagram.

2. Compare and contrast plant and animal cells.

3. Describe the role of chloroplasts in photosynthesis and why they are only present in plant cells.

4. Discuss the importance of the cell wall and how it differs from the cell membrane.

5. Write a detailed note on the functions of mitochondria, nucleus, and vacuole in plant cells.
